We mainly consider the nonlinear elliptic partial differential equations of scalar-field type on a large spherical cap and discuss the properties of solutions from the bifurcation theoretic point of view. We treat solutions which depend both on the “latitude” and on the “longitude”. We also focus on the asymptotic behavior of the eigenvalues of the Laplace-Beltrami operator on the sphere as the cap becomes larger and larger.
