Tittle:A mathematical model of collective cell migrations based on cell polarity

Abstract:
Collective cell migration has been investigated as a self organization phenomenon in life activities. Recently, rotational phenomena of collective cell migrations observed in morphogenesis are focused. For example, they are observed in the elongation process of the fruiting body formation of a kind of slime mold. In contrast, in experiments using Madin-Darby canine kidney cells and cancer cells (a kind of epithelial cells), several migration modes which contain rotational migration are observed. Our goal is to extract essential mechanisms of collective cell migrations in morphogenesis from mathematical modeling. In this talk, we select the self-propelled particle method propose a new model focusing on cell polarity, and explore mechanisms of which each migration mode occurs robustly for the parameters and the initial conditions. As a numerical result, we show a phase diagram for the parameters of a driving force by the cell polarity and the cell-cell adhesive force.

Title: Fraud detection with topological and geometric methods

Abstract:
We describe several methods for outlier detection based on geometric and topological ideas. These methods came up in network analysis and in the development of a fraud detection system at a Korean bank, and are all specific to a particular type of outlier detection. For example, one can perform statistics on the curvature of mouse movements to distinguish login patterns of different users. The goal of this talk is to give a sample of the different methods we have found to be useful.
