Graduate School of Science
Thank you very much for visiting our website. The Graduate School of Science offers master’s and doctoral programs encompassing a wide range of scientific fields, including mathematics, physics, cosmosciences, earth and planetary sciences, biodiversity, and science communication. While our research spans diverse disciplines, we emphasize that our inspiration stems from curiosity, a fascination with the unknown, a desire to uncover mechanisms, and an aspiration to discover universal laws.
Pursuing natural science driven by your curiosity requires essential skills such as science-based insight and logical thinking. In the master’s programs, students refine these skills through cutting-edge research and the completion of their master’s thesis. This experience equips students to take on pivotal roles across various sectors of society.
In the doctoral program, students further apply their advanced scientific insight and logical thinking to uncover unknown phenomena and universal laws in the natural world. They conduct original research to elucidate these principles, earning their doctorate through groundbreaking achievements. The process of independently formulating questions, designing solutions, conducting experiments or observations, applying logical reasoning, and reaching objectively verifiable conclusions fosters autonomous research skills. These skills will serve as invaluable assets in a globally competitive career.
Beyond specialized research, the graduate school offers a distinctive education program, the “Multifaceted Ambitious DX Human Resource Development Program.” In recent years, data science approaches have become integral to scientific research, requiring students to adopt multifaceted perspectives, including logical reasoning. This program provides opportunities for cross-departmental collaboration, enabling students to reassess the context of their research and enhance their practical communication skills. Upon completing this program, students receive a unique certificate from the Graduate School of Science in addition to their degree.
Although natural science is driven by curiosity, it profoundly contributes to societal advancement. Without a deep understanding of natural science, the development of transformative technologies such as survey methods, observation tools, energy conversion processes, predictive systems, communication platforms, genome editing technologies, cyberspace innovations, and other paradigm-shifting advancements would not have been possible.
Our Sapporo campus, surrounded by pristine natural beauty, is an ideal setting for embarking on a scientific journey to uncover the universal laws of nature. I warmly invite you to take on this ambitious challenge at our graduate school, working alongside a world-class faculty.
Best wishes,
Dr. KUBO Hideo
