Hydrogen Gas Production and Storage Cycle of Polyhydric Alcohols/Polyketones

Abstract
Liquid organic hydrogen carriers (LOHCs) store hydrogen gas (H2) safely and reversibly through covalent bonding via hydrogenation and dehydrogenation reactions, enabling large-scale H2 transportation using gasoline infrastructure. Among them, monohydric alcohols/monoketones can release H2 under mild conditions (<200 °C) due to their low dehydrogenation enthalpies. In this work, we demonstrate a new class of LOHCs based on polyhydric alcohols/polyketones, which can store H2 densely while maintaining the low dehydrogenation enthalpies of monohydric alcohols.
