Taxonomic studies of marine macroalgae (seaweeds), with biosystematic and/or chemotaxonomic methods. Field surveys around Japan and adjacent waters (Southeast Asia to the Russian Far East) on a biogeographical view. Genus Laurnecia (Ceramiales, Rhodophyta) is the main target. It is an interesting alga with the ability to produce halogenated secondary metabolites that exhibits ecological and pharmaceutical potential.
